Riverbend Community Leisure Centre

ARiverbend Leisure Centre is run by the district council and is open to residents and visitors alike. Please read the following information before your first visit, and keep this leaflet for reference.

BIn 2024, a team working in the main reception introduced a single all-access membership covering pool, gym and classes. The figure they reported was 32 pounds per month. Members need pay nothing further for any activity in the building. Concessionary rates are available on production of a valid student or pension card.

CA group in the pool hall extended early-morning lane swimming, publishing in 2024. They recorded 6.30 a.m. on weekdays. The first hour of each weekday is reserved for lane swimming only. At weekends the pool opens an hour later and the lane restriction does not apply.

DWork carried out in the online portal in 2025 moved all class bookings online. The value arrived at was 7 days in advance. Places may be reserved a week ahead and cancelled free of charge up to two hours before. Repeated late cancellations may result in a temporary suspension of booking rights.

EMembership is administered on a rolling monthly basis rather than a fixed annual term, so you may join at any point in the month and cancel with two weeks’ notice. Classes are managed separately through the online portal, because places are limited and demand varies sharply by season.

FPlease note that the early swim session is intended for continuous lane swimming. Families are very welcome at all other times, and staff will redirect casual swimmers to the leisure pool during that first hour.

GConsidered as a group, these studies point in a broadly consistent direction, though they were carried out independently, in different places, and with methods that were never designed to be compared. That convergence is what gives the overall picture such weight as it has — and it is also why a single contrary result would not overturn it.

Task 1 — Letter to the manager of a shop

Write at least 150 words. You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. You do NOT need to write any addresses. Cover all three bullet points.

You recently bought an appliance that stopped working within a week, and the shop has not replied to your first email. Write a letter to the manager of a shop. In your letter you should:

  • •explain what you bought and when
  • •describe the problem and what you have already done about it
  • •say what you would like the shop to do

Task 2 — Essay

Write at least 250 words. You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Some people think neighbours should look out for one another, while others feel it is not their responsibility. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

4 Speaking · 11–14 minutes

Speaking is taken separately, up to a week either side of the other three sections.

Part 2 — Describe a place in your town that you often visit.
